The normal entries that you see on Google in the left hand column of the page are referred to as "natural" entries or results.  The entries on the right hand side of the page are displayed using Google's "Pay Per Click" application "AdWords".  Google, Yahoo, and many other Search Engines have these types of PPC applications.
